Children's vaccinations for new arrivals in Australia
How to get your child's overseas vaccinations checked and added to the Australian Immunisation Register.
In short
Australia keeps a record of every child's vaccinations on the Australian Immunisation Register. A GP can check your child's overseas records, add them to the register, and give any catch-up doses.
What to do
A GP can check which vaccines your children had overseas and whether catch-up doses are needed.
What you need to know
- Your children's vaccination records from home, in English, even if incomplete
- Take them to a GP or other recognised vaccination provider: only they can add overseas vaccines to the Australian Immunisation Register. You cannot update it yourself
- The vaccines then appear on your child's immunisation history statement, which you can use as proof
- No GP yet? See the step Find a GP
The linked page is a clinical handbook for doctors, not a parent guide. It states that migrants should have their vaccination status assessed and that overseas vaccines should be reported to the register.
